Magic invests €9 million in the Thalasso, which was «the biggest saltwater spa» with Marina d’Or
The first 8-million-euro investment phase renovated 192 rooms and common areas, while the third, worth 4.3 million, will consolidate its wellness concept
Magic Hoteles, the Benidorm chain that runs the former Marina d’Or Holiday City, has kicked off the hotel’s second phase of investment—its five-star property, which is connected to what, during the Jesús Ger era, was “the world’s biggest saltwater spa.” This misleading advertising—since spas don’t have saltwater—has been corrected by using the right term for this type of facility (Thalasso), with an investment of 9 million euros that has just started.
The Alicante company, which has a long and successful track record in family tourism, has refocused this destination—and especially its five-star facility—toward wellness tourism and personal care for travelers with greater spending power and demand for care.
“The new space is designed as an environment where water, design, health and personal care are an active part of the wellbeing experience,” explain those at Magic Hoteles.
Pontiana Thalasso Hotel will open its doors on 18 June next, starting a season shaped by the evolution of the Pontiana Mediterranean Thalasso concept: “a way of understanding holidays through care, renewal and connection with the sea.”
The new indoor Thalasso will include water areas, a café, changing rooms, training rooms, treatment cabins and a kids club, as well as an integrated concept designed to accompany guests across different dimensions of their wellbeing. The project strengthens Pontiana’s identity as a place where the Mediterranean is no longer just scenery, but the source of health, energy and renewal.
Thalassotherapy will be one of the hotel’s key differentiators. Through marine circuits, seawater water therapies and regenerative rituals, Pontiana offers “an experience based on the benefits of the sea as a natural resource to renew body and mind“.
The transformation also includes new spaces aimed at enhancing the stay, such as a sky bar, a à la carte restaurant and a premium lounge. These will help expand the Pontiana experience beyond accommodation and Thalasso by bringing together gastronomy, rest, leisure and wellbeing within a single concept.
In addition, the hotel will continue developing Pontiana Lab, a space where mindful eating and wellbeing come together through hands-on workshops guided by nutrition experts, healthy recipes and educational activities. Pontiana will also feature a collection of wellness programs for stays of up to 10 nights, focused on rest, energy, physical recovery, natural beauty and shared wellbeing as a family.
This 9-million-euro investment in Thalasso follows a hotel renovation, with a full refurbishment of the 192 hotel rooms and common areas such as buffets, receptions and other key spaces for the guest experience, with an investment of close to 8 million euros. This project allowed Pontiana’s accommodation base to be updated and strengthened its positioning as a 5-star hotel within the resort.
The plan also includes a future third phase, scheduled to be completed in 2027, with an estimated investment of 4.3 million euros. This will allow the hotel’s transformation to continue and will consolidate its high-value-added wellness proposal.
The evolution of Pontiana Thalasso Hotel comes after 2025, a year of growth for the Oropesa del Mar resort, during which the international market doubled the production recorded the previous year. Against this backdrop, Pontiana boosts the resort’s ability to attract new customer profiles, expand its activity beyond the high season, and develop a more specialized offering linked to wellbeing, health and the quality of the experience.
With this transformation, Pontiana Thalasso Hotel moves forward as accommodation with its own personality: a 5-star hotel designed for people seeking rest, energy, gastronomy, personal care and connection with the Mediterranean.
Pontiana thus represents a new way of living wellbeing by the sea: a space where every experience is born from water, care and the transformative power of the Mediterranean.
